Bodies of Water / Ħallini Nsir il-Baħar, Stef Galea’s debut photobook will be launched at Tenderbooks, London on Thursday 30th October.

Within its pages, Stef Galea reflects on the notion of identity as something residual and ever-shifting — a waveform that shapes, erodes, and reshapes the self. The work, which moves between the cinematic and the intimate, muses on themes of femininity, shame, religion, and heritage — how the body holds culture, how identity shifts like the sea, and how it ties to the two islands she now hails from.

The book is designed by Matthew Roland Bannister and features Maltese texts and the Maltese title by poet Elizabeth Grech (Mana Chuma Teatro), whose words frame the photographs in a shared language of memory and longing. The English version was translated by Irene Mangion.
