Elizabeth GRECH, Paris, translator & proofreader, cultural project manager
Elizabeth Grech studied Contemporary Mediterranean Studies, Anthropology and French at the University of Malta and the Aix-Marseille I University. She worked as a project manager for 10 years at the René Seydoux Foundation in Paris. She was also editor of the English version of babelmed.net, an independent online magazine on Mediterranean cultures and societies. As a self-taught translator, she worked with various social scientists, NGO’s and cultural and artistic organisations. She is a consultant with the CIHEAM (International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies), in charge of the English version of their working documents and publications.
She is also a literary translator and translates in French, the works of several contemporary Maltese poets/writers including John Aquilina, Clare Azzopardi, Norbert Bugeja, Antoine Cassar, Adrian Grima et John Portelli. Many of her translations have been published as books, in poetry collections or literary journals. She has been writing poetry in Maltese for the past 15 years but started to share them recently. Some of them have been published in poetry collections and journals in Maltese, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Romanian and Albanian. Her first poetry collection will be published by Merlin Publishers, Malta in January 2019. She has participated to the International Poetry Festival in Sidi Bou Saïd in June 2018, Tunisia and to the International Literary Manifestation in Tetova, Macedonia in October 2018. She one of the poets invited at the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival (MMLF) 2019.
